The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responds to all alarms. There are no charges for excessive false alarms but the Detachment Commander can write a letter to frequent offenders stating that the Police will no longer respond to alarms received from the premise. It is believed that this information was accurate as of January 1, 2002. Please contact the police directly to confirm. The District Municipality of Muskoka False alarm by-law. The OPP responds to alarms. An alarm holder is entitled to one (1) free false alarm dispatch during a one (1) year period. The one (1) year period begins on the date of the first false alarm. All subsequent alarms during that year will be subject to a false alarm fine of $200 and the police send a notice of suspension of priority of response. Re-instatement of response status is permitted if the charges ($200) are paid and the owner of the alarmed premises provides satisfactory evidence that the alarm is in proper working order.
