False Alarm Reduction By-Law

 

 

Effective December 31, 2002 the Thunder Bay Police Service will implement a False Alarm Reduction Program.  The driving force behind the program is to reduce the amount of police resources currently being consumed in responding to false alarms.

One-Time Registration Fees:
Residential & Commercial under 2,000 square feet:                   $  25.00
Commercial over 2,000 square feet:                                          $  50.00

False Alarm Fee Structure:

                                                   Registered                    Not Registered
1st False Alarm                              $40.00                         $80.00
2nd False Alarm                             $60.00                         $100.00
3rd and subsequent False Alarm     $80.00                         $120.00

Fees are base on false alarms occurring within a one calendar year period beginning January 1st and ending December 31st.  The clock is reset each  January 1st so that the fee for the 1st false alarm in any given year is as per the above schedule.

What is a False Alarm?
False alarm means an alarm incident where there is no evidence that an unauthorized entry or unlawful act has been attempted or made into, on or in respect of a building, structure or premises and includes, but is not limited to:

              I.      The activation of a security alarm system during its testing;

           II.      A security alarm system activated by mechanical failure, malfunction or faulty equipment;

         III.      A security alarm system activated by atmospheric conditions, vibrations or power failure;

        IV.      A security alarm system activated by user error.
