| KEEP YOUR CLIENT'S VoIP ADDRESS CURRENT!
When you first sign up a VoIP client you should have obtained a “physical” address which is sometimes different than the billing address or the shipping address etc.
This is the address that you provide to Northern911 and it is the address that we will display to our Call Takers in the event your client calls 911.
If the caller can speak we will verify their address. If they can’t speak, are cut off, are under duress etc. this is the “last known address” and this is the address that we will dispatch to.
As such it is critical to keep it as accurate as possible.
It is the VoIP provider’s responsibility to be in contact with their clients and to keep this address current.
Some VoIP providers have a web site that their clients can update their address on which the VoIP provider then passes on to us.
In addition as a good practice, some VoIP providers on a regular basis send the 911 address that they have on file to the client as a reminder that this is the address that they may be dispatched to.
Some VoIP providers have a section on their web sites explaining the differences about V911 and E911 and explaining how important it is for the client to keep their address current.
Once an address is provided to Northern911 we attach the routing information to it. It is faster and more efficient to confirm an address than to start from scratch with a caller who may be under stress.
If possible, we confirm the address on every call.
Note that VoIP 911 service providers such as Northern911 bear no responsibility to ensure that the address information the carrier or the client has provided is accurate and we will take no steps to ensure that it is. It is important to note that in emergency situations people may panic, and have difficulty in communicating simple facts such as their address.
Please keep your client's address information up to date!! A life could depend upon it!
