We have been very pleased with our partnership with Northern 911 especially with the extra steps that have been taken to support the service given our challenges locating a phone number and city for some interactions. It is great to watch newly onboarded sites move from hesitation about using Northern 911 (fears it’ll take longer as it sounds like an additional step) to fully embracing it and finding it easier than calling direct to local 911. The ability for Northern 911 to know that it is a crisis responder phoning in on behalf of someone else and then setting up that introduction when connecting to the local 911 saves both time and frustration.

More than 70% of our interactions directly involve suicide – the responders do everything they can to build a connection, assess risk and try and find the least invasive means of keeping someone safe. Only 3% of our interactions result in a 911 call, which speaks to the fact that when 911 is called it is needed as they’ve tried every other avenue of creating safety first. The support of the Northern 911 staff helps keep people in desperate emotional pain safe every single day for which we are very deeply grateful.
